College of Southern Idaho Applied Technology & Innovation Center

Twin Falls, Idaho / 2015

At approximately 41,000 square feet, the Applied Technology and Innovation Center or ATIC is the newest building on the College of Southern Idaho Campus.
Manufacturing Technology, HVAC Technology, Environmental and Wind Technology, Food Processing Technology and Drafting are programs that occupy five classrooms and three large lab areas including a climb training tower space. Faculty and staff are housed in 8 offices adjacent to their respective labs. The CSI Workforce Training Director and various industry training opportunities are also housed in the ATIC.
The ATIC Building is the largest EDA grant-funded project west of the Mississippi. In addition to being a LEED certified Building, the facility showcases an interactive learning system for energy consumption and management.
Unique energy saving and efficient lighting fixtures are incorporated into the clean, industrial space.

Small scale wind turbines and solar panels are used by students for education and training. The hallways separating the lab areas from the classrooms are student friendly study areas including chairs, tables, and lockers for students to secure their personal items. Large viewing windows are incorporated into the labs to allow students and visitors to observe the teaching and training taking place in the various labs.
The modern industrial feel of the design blends with the existing campus architecture, while showcasing the programs that are taught in the facility. Mechanical and electrical systems are exposed and color coated, allowing students learning about these systems to observe them in a real world environment.
