Boise State University Interactive Learning Center
Boise, Idaho / 2007
“Not your ordinary classroom building” was the objective of the stakeholders when additional classroom space was needed on this university campus.
Intended to be an active resource for learning, the center focuses on creating dynamic teaching, studying and community learning spaces, infused with leading-edge technology and spaces for interaction.
The final result is a destination for interactive learning, including flexible setting classrooms, distance learning rooms, a multi-media lab, group work and break-out areas for team-based activities, as well as ‘found’ study spaces, carved into circulation spaces. Upper levels contain enclosed study rooms and open study lounges with mobile furnishings to encourage group collaborations.
A food service element and coffee bar integrated into the first floor creates meeting space with a variety of seating options.
With the help of technology, thoughtfully planned spaces, and furnishings that allow flexibility for reconfigurations, the end result is a space that encourages and enables learning in a variety of settings to suit the user, and has become a vibrant hub on campus.
